Revision of AVA Policies – comments required from AVPA

Home > AVPA News

Dear AVPA and CPV members,

The poultry special interest group was asked at the recent Policy Council meeting to assist in drafting/rewriting the attached AVA Policies on ‘Livestock in peri-urban areas’  and ‘The use of prescription animal remedies’.

(NOTE: The three attached AVA policies can be found on the Members Forum/Q&A tab under the “Our People” heading on the slider) -this is a members only site!)

AVA Policy Council suggested combining the pig and poultry ‘Use of Prescription Animal Remedies’ into a single document that covers all species and provides more on guidance to avoid the development of antimicrobial resistance in line with current AVA strategy.  PLEASE NOTE – the detailed guidelines for both species were accepted and will appear on the AVA policy website as guidelines.  This new ‘all species‘ document is a policy to support these individual species specific guidelines.  Please email or call me if you would like further detail.

The pig and poultry representatives also suggested a rewrite of the peri-urban animals document to further emphasise biosecurity and welfare.

I would welcome any comments on the attached documents by Thursday 31st July for incorporation into the working group discussion.
